INTRO TO ANXIETY & DEPRESSION AS CONDITIONS

Anxiety and Depression In A Nutshell

Anxiety and depression can feel like a heavy fog, leaving you overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or disconnected from both yourself and those around you. These struggles often arise from chronic stress, major life transitions, or the ongoing pressure of trying to cope in a fast-paced and demanding world. Over time, they can quietly erode your sleep, relationships, confidence, and overall enjoyment of life.

Anxiety is a persistent sense of unease, tension, or fear that can take over your thoughts, disrupt your ability to relax, and make everyday tasks feel exhausting or overwhelming. It might show up as racing thoughts, restlessness, panic attacks, or physical symptoms like a racing heart or trouble breathing. Depression, on the other hand, can feel like emotional heaviness or numbness that’s hard to shake. It often brings deep sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, or a loss of interest in things that once brought joy. You might feel like you’re just going through the motions, disconnected from yourself and the world around you.

If this sounds familiar, please know you’re not alone. Therapy offers a safe space to understand these feelings, explore their root causes, and gently work towards relief, clarity, and reconnection.

Befriending Your Nervous System- A gentle therapeutic journey back to your Soul

Have you ever felt as though your mind never truly switches off?

Perhaps you find yourself worrying constantly, replaying conversations, expecting the worst, struggling to relax, feeling overwhelmed by everyday life, or living as though your body is always preparing for danger.

If this feels familiar, you are not alone.

Your nervous system has been working incredibly hard to protect you. Sometimes, however, it continues responding as though danger is still present, even when part of you knows that you are safe.

Befriending Your Nervous System is a seven-week therapeutic journey designed to help you understand your anxiety with compassion rather than frustration.

Instead of fighting your nervous system, we will gently learn to listen to it, understand what it has been trying to protect, and explore ways of helping your body experience greater safety, steadiness and trust.

The group begins on Saturday 5th September at 2:00 pm and will meet weekly for seven 90-minute sessions.

There will be only five spaces available, allowing the group to remain warm, personal and carefully held. It will be a space where learning, creativity, kindness and meaningful connection can come together.

During our seven weeks together, we will gently explore why anxiety happens and what your nervous system may be trying to communicate.

We will learn how to recognise your own early signs of overwhelm before you reach breaking point, discover practical ways to settle the body and quieten the mind, and explore how past experiences may still influence present reactions.

We will also look at self-criticism, people-pleasing, boundaries, emotional safety and how to respond to yourself with greater kindness rather than judgement.

Each session will include a blend of gentle psychoeducation, guided mindfulness, breathwork, somatic exercises, nervous system regulation, creative therapeutic activities and reflective discussion.

Some of the experiences we may explore together include creating a visual map of your nervous system using colour and art, building your own personalised Calm Box, practising guided meditation and visualisation, working with aromatherapy and grounding objects, exploring emotions through journalling and expressive art, and learning simple body-based techniques that can support you during anxious moments in everyday life.

There will also be tea, warmth and space for genuine conversations with others who understand what it can feel like to live with anxiety.

Throughout the programme, you will gradually create your own personalised nervous system toolkit, filled with practical resources, sensory supports, grounding techniques and compassionate reminders that you can continue using long after the group has ended.

This journey is not about becoming a different person.

It is about gently finding your way back to the parts of you that anxiety may have overshadowed.

Underneath the worry, overwhelm and self-doubt, there is still a wiser, calmer and more compassionate part of you waiting to be heard.

My hope is that by the end of our time together, you will not only understand anxiety more deeply. You will also understand yourself more fully, trust yourself more gently, and feel better equipped to support your nervous system with kindness for years to come.

Benefits Of Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

Therapy offers a safe and supportive environment to explore the root causes of anxiety and depression, helping individuals gain insights into their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through evidence-based techniques, it empowers people to develop healthier coping strategies and improve emotional resilience.

In-Person Therapy For Depression and Anxiety

Healing from the safety of your own space.

In-person therapy allows for face-to-face connection, which can foster a stronger therapeutic relationship and deeper emotional engagement. Physical presence can also enhance non-verbal communication, giving therapists better insight into clients' emotions and needs. The structured, distraction-free environment of a therapist’s office can help people feel more grounded and present during sessions. For many, attending therapy in person creates a sense of routine and commitment that supports long-term healing.

Online Therapy For Depression and Anxiety

Grounded connection in a safe, supportive environment.

Online therapy sessions for depression and anxiety offers a flexible, accessible way to receive support from the comfort and privacy of your own space, helping reduce the stress that often comes with in-person sessions. It allows you to connect with a compassionate therapist without barriers like travel, time constraints, or social discomfort. For anxiety and depression, this ease of access can make it easier to start healing consistently and stay supported through life’s ups and downs.

 MEET YOUR COUNSELLOR

Hi, I’m Alicja,
your Go-To Counsellor in Jersey

I’m someone who carries both fire and gentleness, with the heart of a healer and the mind of a strategist. I’ve walked through burnout, grief, major life changes - not untouched, but reshaped. These experiences didn’t break me; they clarified my purpose. They taught me how to hold space for pain, for hope, for truth, and for healing.

I’m trained in creative and integrative approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, somatic work, meditation, Thought Field Therapy, and energy-based practices like Emotion and Body Code. What this means is we don’t have to stay in one lane. We can draw from what works for you. Whether it’s grounding breathwork, therapy cards, nervous system regulation tools, or quiet reflection, each session is shaped around where you are and what you need.

I don’t believe in fixing people. I believe in walking alongside them - gently, honestly, with depth and care.

Creativity is woven through everything I do. It’s how I understand the world, and how I invite others to explore theirs. Therapy with me might include colour, metaphor, art, movement, or simply a different way of looking at something. You’ll also receive thoughtful tools, printouts, and practices to carry into your day-to-day - because healing doesn’t stop at the end of the session.

I’m a mother. I love all animals. A passionate advocate. A bit quirky. Deeply human. I believe in softness, structure, humour, and soul.

And I will always, always hold hope for you, especially when it feels hard to hold it for yourself.
