Parent- carer trauma workshop
Parent–carer trauma is a deeply valid and often overlooked experience. Research shows that parents and carers of children with additional needs are at significantly higher risk of emotional burnout, anxiety, depression, and even symptoms of post-traumatic stress. The ongoing demands of advocating for your child, navigating services, managing appointments, and often feeling misunderstood or unseen can take a real toll—not just mentally, but physically and relationally.
Studies have found that when a parent or carer is under constant stress, it can affect their nervous system regulation, sleep, immune function, and even their sense of identity. Many report feeling isolated, guilty for struggling, or overwhelmed by the sheer emotional weight of holding everything together for their child and family.
But there is hope.
The good news is that trauma is not just about what happened—it’s also about how we process it, and how we are supported afterward. Creative and compassionate interventions, like the ones used in this workshop, can help soothe the nervous system, reconnect you with your own voice, and allow space for healing. Simply being in a room with others who understand can be incredibly powerful.
This workshop is designed to hold space for your story—without judgement, without pressure. Just the gentle invitation to feel what’s real, find moments of release, and rebuild your strength in ways that feel safe and meaningful.
What to Bring & How to Prepare
To support your healing journey during the Parent–Carer Trauma Workshop, I ask each participant to bring a printed copy of a letter, document, or message that has felt upsetting or difficult—especially anything connected to your family or your caring role. This might be a school letter, a diagnosis report, an email, or a message that left a lasting emotional impact.
In the first part of the workshop, we’ll be gently transforming the emotional charge of these items using creative tools and reflective exploration. This process allows you to reclaim your power and soften the weight these communications may carry.
We’ll be working on the floor, seated or lying down on yoga mats, so please wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement and rest. You’re welcome to bring your own mat, cushion, or blanket for extra comfort.
The session will close with a guided and personalised meditation, helping you reconnect with your inner calm and leave feeling lighter, seen, and supported—with new tools to carry forward.

MEET YOUR COUNSELLOR
Hi, I’m Alicja,
your Go-To Counsellor in Jersey
I’m someone who carries both fire and gentleness, with the heart of a healer and the mind of a strategist. I’ve walked through burnout, grief, major life changes - not untouched, but reshaped. These experiences didn’t break me; they clarified my purpose. They taught me how to hold space for pain, for hope, for truth, and for healing.
I’m trained in creative and integrative approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, somatic work, meditation, Thought Field Therapy, and energy-based practices like Emotion and Body Code. What this means is we don’t have to stay in one lane. We can draw from what works for you. Whether it’s grounding breathwork, therapy cards, nervous system regulation tools, or quiet reflection, each session is shaped around where you are and what you need.
I don’t believe in fixing people. I believe in walking alongside them - gently, honestly, with depth and care.
Creativity is woven through everything I do. It’s how I understand the world, and how I invite others to explore theirs. Therapy with me might include colour, metaphor, art, movement, or simply a different way of looking at something. You’ll also receive thoughtful tools, printouts, and practices to carry into your day-to-day - because healing doesn’t stop at the end of the session.
I’m a mother. I love all animals. A passionate advocate. A bit quirky. Deeply human. I believe in softness, structure, humour, and soul.
And I will always, always hold hope for you, especially when it feels hard to hold it for yourself.
